2008 General Racing Rules

MCG Points Series:
a. Points Series: Registration for a MCG Elite Access membership is required. Points will only be awarded to MCG Elite Access members in Quick, Hemi, Max Wedge, Super Pro, Pro and Sportsman. Points are awarded to the driver not the vehicle. Drivers may compete in more than one class per season; however points are not transferable between classes. Drivers are automatically registered for points simply by entering an event; however your points will not be awarded if you are not an MCG/CC Events member. All contestants are required to run two MCG Points Series decals available only when you become a member.

b. Tie Breaker Procedures: In the event of a tie, the driver who attended the higher number of events will advance by one point. If a tie still exists, the driver who had the most event wins will advance by one point and lastly the driver who made the most rounds at Norwalk will advance by one point. Ties will only be broken for the top five (5) finalists in each category.

1. Assumption of Risk:
Drag racing is a dangerous sport for participants. For the purpose of this rulebook, participants will be defined as any persons directly or indirectly associated with any vehicle that has been permitted to enter the event site for the purpose of competition or car show, including, but not limited to owner, crew, driver, sponsors, family, or any other persons involved with said vehicle. In addition, participants shall include any person or persons engaged in selling or displaying products. Participants who enter a Classic Event are acknowledging that the event site is safe and suitable for racing and that they understand and assume the risks that relate to drag racing events. Participants must acknowledge that by participating in the events that they may suffer injury, death, loss, or damage to personal property. The participant voluntarily assumes the risks of such losses and agrees to indemnify Classic Events and its respective owners, shareholders, officers, directors, employees, agents, representatives and servants, as well as any and all persons and/or entities connected with the promotion, management and/or presentation of any portion of a Classic Event. Classic Events makes no representation, or express or implied warranties, that compliance with the rules and regulations posted in this rulebook or the safety requirements posted by the host facility sanctioning body, will prevent or guarantee against injury or death to spectators or participants or damage to personal property. The rules and conduct guidelines set within this rulebook, and the safety rules set forth by the host's sanctioning body are intended solely as the minimum acceptable standards. Safety is the responsibility of the participants of the event.

2. Compliance of Rules:
Any and all participants, by entering a Classic Event, agree to be bound by all rules, regulations, terms and decisions made by the event officials. Any and all decisions, whether they are made prior, during, or after an event are final and may not be made the basis of litigation toward Classic Events, or its staff and officials. All rules, interpretations of the rules, questions and/or protests will be left to the final discretion of the Competition Director and may be changed at any time if the situation warrants. Participant safety and parity of competition is the primary focus of Classic Events. Due the inability to control weather and unforeseen delays to the programs, Classic Events reserves the right to alter or cancel any event program. This includes cancellation of classes and how classes will be run. Classic Events reserves the right to disqualify, eject, or take action against any participant for failure to comply with any decision, rule, or regulation, or for any reason it deems appropriate, with or without a refund.

3. Entry Procedures:
a. Driver Eligibility: A valid NHRA or IHRA competition license relative to the host facilities sanctioning body is required for any driver running 9.99 seconds or quicker. A valid Advanced E.T. NHRA competition license is required for any driver running 7.49 seconds or quicker. All other drivers must possess a valid state-issued driver's license. Learner's permits or temporary licenses are not acceptable. Licensed drivers under 18 must have a liability release signed by a parent or legal guardian. Drivers must be able to present a valid license to track officials on demand. If a license has been revoked by the state, the driver must present documentation that a license had previously issued in their name.

b. Contingency Awards: Classic Events and or contingency sponsor will administer the payout of any applicable contingency postings. It is the driver's responsibility to meet the manufacturers' requirements and display the appropriate decals. Contingency money, if administered by Classic Events, or contingency form, must be picked up by the end of each event.

c. Payout: Prize money and trophies may be picked up at the end of each event.  Prize Money not picked up during the event will be mailed to you.  Trophies WILL NOT BE MAILED but may be picked up at the next event!


d. Refunds: Tech card refunds will be issued only if vehicle does not pass tech or if vehicle breaks before its first pass. Once a driver has received his first time slip, there are no refunds for breakage. Refunds will be minus the cost of one adult weekend admission. There are no Gamblers Race refunds. No spectator or crew refunds are issued regardless of situation.

e. Restricted Area Access: No person may approach the racing surface beyond the staging lanes or “ready line” with the exception of crew members whose driver is in the burnout box, on the starting line, or on the track surface. No one under sixteen years of age is permitted in the staging lanes unless they are inside of a support vehicle. Press Credentials will only be issued by Classic Events, for activities at the site of the event and reasonably related to the event.

f. Tech Cards: Drivers may compete in two (2) classes with two (2) separate cars. Drivers may also compete in two (2) classes with the SAME car. Drivers MUST purchase an entry for each class. It is the driver’s responsibility to make each class call. CLASSES WILL NOT BE HELD for drivers competing in two (2) classes; this is the risk you take in running two (2) classes!!! There will be NO REFUNDS or DISCUSSIONS if you cannot make class calls or must drop out of a class. Points will be awarded by class for each class a driver competes in and will not be carried over (Example: Driver races in Pro and Sportsman - points earned while running Pro will count for Pro ONLY, points earned while running Sportsman will count towards Sportsman ONLY!) No driver changes after eliminations start. A driver can not change vehicles after eliminations start. A Driver my not enter 2 cars in the same class.

g. Tech Inspection: Prior to competition, all vehicles and drivers must pass the host facility's tech inspection. The final interpretation of any and all rules concerning safety is solely at the discretion of the host facility's Tech Director. Classic Events makes no representations, warranties, or assurances that a technical inspection will: detect every problem with a vehicle or a driver's personal equipment or clothing; detect every problem with rules compliance, or prevent injury, death or property damage.

4. Pit Area:
a. Burn-outs: Spinning tires in the staging lanes, pits or return road will result in immediate disqualification and eviction.

b. Curfew: All race vehicles, pit vehicles, support vehicles, or any other wheeled vehicles must be parked and quiet in compliance with the host facilities curfew or one hour after the last run. Violations may result in immediate disqualification and eviction.

c. Parking: Racers are permitted to save one additional pit space during setup days. Racers blocking more than twenty feet of additional pit road frontage will have their stanchions and ropes removed.

d. Pit Traffic. Basic “rules of the road” will apply to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Any wheeled vehicle is expected to travel in the same lane and direction as on a city street. Passing is to be avoided. Racers should make every attempt to keep pit lanes clear, and to confine all support vehicles within their pit area. Speed limit is 10mph. Any pedestrian is expected to face opposing traffic and to keep out of traffic lanes. RACE CARS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY.

e. Pit Vehicles: Operators of all wheeled vehicles must be at least 16 years of age and be able to produce a valid state-issued driver's license to any Classic Events or track official on demand. Any children's wheeled vehicle, including but not limited to bicycles, tricycles, battery operated vehicles, pedal cars, push cars, etc., must remain inside the racer's pit area. Absolutely no “Razor-type” scooters, motorized “barstools” or any such contraption will be permitted on site. Such vehicles may be confiscated for the duration of the event if found to be in use. Any other wheeled vehicle, including rental golf carts may be confiscated if operated improperly. The participant who is the primary occupant of the pit space which houses any wheeled vehicle which is operated in an unsafe manner or by an operator under the age of 16 is subject to immediate disqualification and eviction with no warning.

f. Speed Limit: All wheeled vehicles traveling in the pit area are limited to 10 miles per hour. Racers using the car show or swap meet area as a warm-up course will be immediately disqualified and evicted.

g. Tow Vehicles: Support vehicles will use the track surface but will stay next to the guard wall. Support vehicles must remain inside racer's pit area when not in use.

5. Publicity:
In consideration of being allowed to enter and by being issued credentials to a Classic Event, the vehicle owner, vehicle driver, crew members, spectators, talent, guests and other holders of event credentials (participants) agrees as follows:

a. All rights to advertising, promotion, filming, recording, exhibition, and other exploitations of the event, the participants and vehicles entered in the event, and their activities at the site of the event before, during, and after the event and reasonably related to the event, reserved to Classic Events and its assigns.

b. Participants grant Classic Event and its assigns full and unconditional permission to make still or motion pictures and any other type(s) of audio or visual recordings of their activities at the site of the event before, during and after the event and reasonably related to the event. Participants further grant Classic Events exclusive, worldwide and perpetual rights to use the same, together with their names, likeness, and biographies of participants, and the names, likeness, and date of, or relating to, their entered vehicle for publicity, advertising, exhibition or exploitation whether or not for profit, in print, audio, video and other communications media by reproduction and sale or other distribution by any and all means now known or hereafter developed.

c. Participants agree that without the prior written consent of Classic Events, they shall not take any still or motion pictures or make any audio or visual recording of the event, participants therein, or activities at the site of the event for use other than personal, in-home use of the participant, or cause or permit others to do so or use the same.

6. Race Procedures:
b. Burn Outs: Must be done in the burnout box with the water poured by an official. No one is allowed to hold the vehicle. Over the line burn outs are allowed in Quick, Hemi and Super Pro ONLY.

c. Bye Run: The driver with the best reaction time in the final round of time trials before Sunday eliminations start will receive the bye run in the first round; bye runs thereafter will be rewarded to the driver who had the best reaction time in the previous round; Bye runs in all “Gamblers races” will be randomly chosen in the tower or staging lanes before the first round of eliminations. The Bye Runner will be moved to the side of the staging lanes. When an even amount of cars exist, the Bye Runner will be paired with the last remaining racer in the lanes. When an odd amount of racers exist, the Bye Runner makes the bye run and proceeds to next round. Regardless of the previous round, a new bye runner will be chosen for each new round of eliminations. Only one bye run per racer per day will be allowed. If a racer was chosen for a bye run and did not get to use it, they are still eligible to receive a bye run if chosen again. Late round Bye Runners must receive the start signal, but the pass need not be completed to receive round win status.
Bye Runs in Quick, Hemi and Max Wedge will be awarded according to the set Ladder.

d. Single Run. In the event of a single run (when one racer in a pair can not make a run down the track) the racer that received the single is still eligible for a bye run at a later time. If a driver is making a single run, they are considered the winner once they stage and receive the start signal or are declared the winner by the official starter. Occasionally two singles may be paired together in the interest of time. Late round drivers must receive the start signal, but the pass need not be completed to receive round win status.

e. Cleanup: In case of a major cleanup, the next two runs may flip for lane choice and may change dial-in.

f. Dial-In Accuracy: Accuracy for both lanes is your responsibility. Dial-ins will be displayed on the read-out boards and/or the scoreboards before you stage. Once the tree is activated, you will be forced to accept the dial-ins.

G. Lane Choice: Lane choice during time trails will be the racer's decision upon entering the staging lanes. Racer on the left side will go to the left lane; the racer on the right side will go to the right lane. It is the racer's responsibility to choose and enter their preferred lane. During Eliminations cars will be randomly paired.

h. License Runs: Any competitor wishing to apply for, or upgrade a competition license must make arrangements with the host facility prior to the event. Any test or licensing runs must be made after the conclusion of the day's on-track activities. Any licensing activities are coordinated and supervised by the host facility and its sanctioning body, not Classic Events. Applicant will be responsible for any track rental, insurance, staffing, or fire and safety fees charged by the host facility.

i. Other Vehicles: Motorcycles, Snowmobiles and other non-Chrysler bodied/ powered vehicles may not compete in any on-track activities.Junior Dragster Welcome in 2008.

j. Rain Out: All events will be completed on their advertised weekend with no rain date or refunds. Classic Events reserves the right to determine prize money disbursement, and may implement an equal split, deferment to the next event, lottery, or practice tree competition. Any racer eligible for prize money must be on the grounds when the event is called and must collect their payout that day. Any racer who leaves early will forfeit any and all prize money. Races will be called complete no earlier than 12:00pm on the last advertised day. Points will only be awarded for actual runs completed.

k. Re-Runs: Re-runs are not racer discretionary. They are only authorized by track officials. Officials' decisions are final in all circumstances.

l. Rule Discrepancy: In the event of a rule discrepancy or if a subject is not covered herein, defer to the current NHRA rule book.

m. Rule Infractions: The first offense is the final offense. However, the vehicle must leave the line under its own power to receive "round win" status.

n. Scoreboards: Scoreboards are unofficial and for your convenience. The tower clocks are official and will be final should a discrepancy occur.

o. Staging Procedure: When you light your stage beam you are telling the starter you are ready. Occasionally a faster or slower start will happen but it is the same for both drivers. Your last staging motion must be in a forward direction. Backing into the pre-stage or stage beam will result in immediate disqualification.

p. Staging Deep: Do not stop your forward motion after the staging light comes on. A missed Deep Stage will not be rerun. To ensure a proper Deep Stage, you should Deep Stage before your opponent stages.

7. Race Schedule:
a. Eliminations: After the third round of eliminations, all vehicles will be run “round robin” until the conclusion of each class. Vehicles will be allowed ample time to cool in the staging lanes. All facilities simulcast their P.A. announcements on an FM frequency. It is the racer's responsibility to know when his class has been called. Schedules will be posted in advance for each class. Anyone failing to report to the lanes in a timely fashion will miss their race with no rerun allowed. Note: Schedule may deviate due to weather or unforeseen reasons.

b. Final Rounds: Semi final rounds in all MCG Points Series classes will be run consecutively. Final round order will be determined by which vehicles are ready to race first.

c. Ladder: Quick class will be laddered according to qualifying. Hemi and Max Wedge will be paired by lottery for class eliminations and Sunday eliminations.

d. Time Trials: A minimum of two time trials will be scheduled for all classes on Fridays when (applicable), Saturdays and one time trial for all classes on Sundays. Racers may receive less depending on weather and track conditions. Every effort will be made to ensure that everyone receives an equal number of time trials. Quick will receive three qualifying runs. Qualifying runs will apply towards total event time trial allotment.

8. Vehicle Electronics:
a. Timed ignition interruption devices (stutter boxes) are prohibited in all classes.

b. Delay Boxes are allowed in Quick and Super Pro ONLY. Delay Boxes are NOT allowed (in or on the vehicle) in: Pro, Sportsman, Super Stock or Max Wedge.

c. Air and Mechanical Throttle Stops are allowed in Quick and Super Pro ONLY.

d. Air Shifters are allowed in Quick, Super Pro, Pro and Super Stock ONLY.

e. Dual Line Locks are allowed in Quick, Super Pro and Pro ONLY.

f. Trans Brakes and 2 Steps are allowed in Quick, Super Pro, Super Stock and Pro ONLY.

g. Computers and Data Recorders are allowed in Quick, Super Pro, Super Stock as long as they do not activate any function of the vehicle. Factory/OEM installed computers are permitted, however no down track information may be displayed inside the vehicle. Playback tachometers are allowed. No front wheel, hub or drive shaft pickups.

h. Electronic ignition components are allowed in all classes (e.g. MSD 6AL, etc.).

i. Willful violation of any electronics rule is grounds for disqualification and eviction from the event.
